The Santa Barbara Yacht Club has a rich history of awarding honors via trophies that are perpetually engraved, typically on an annual basis. These trophies can be viewed throughout the Santa Barbara Yacht Club. Honors can be given to winners of races, regattas, or awarded to a worthy individual depending on the deed of gift of the trophy. SBYC PERPETUAL TROPHY WINNERS

When visiting the club be sure to check out some of the more famous trophies such as the Sir Thomas Lipton Trophy (pictured right) that has been competed for by Star boats for over 100 years. Other trophies worth seeing include the Potter Hotel Trophy, the Challenge Cup, and the Wilson Offshore Series Trophy. In some cases, trophies do not look like you expect as is the case of the John J. Bugay trophy which is a giant paddle from the Tahitian Islands. John Bugay received this from locals during his ocean travels and brought it back to be awarded to the boat performing the longest distance race each year.
