Charity Regatta

Benefiting Visiting Nurse and Hospice Care
of Santa Barbara on September 13, 2009

Dear Community Friends,

Thank you for helping us host a very successful event.  Crowds of people joined us, along with over forty “Yachts of Love” to enjoy a spectacular day in Santa Barbara harbor.

Mayor Marty Blum honored us with a City Proclamation while a squadron of WW II planes flew overhead.  The culmination of efforts were realized when Commodore Smith presented VNHC’s Board Chairman, Steve Lew with a BIG check to support the new Serenity House.

On behalf of the Regatta Committee, yacht club board of directors and our entire membership, I thank you for your participation and generosity.  We are so pleased to be a part of this special community, and we are proud to support such a fine local organization.  Please continue to support Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care of Santa Barbara (www.vnhcsb.org) throughout the year.  They touch the lives of so many people in our city and they will continue to need our support.

I would also like to once again to thank our kind sponsors, donors and partners who helped to make this day a success.  Feel free to browse this website and find links to their organizations.

Lastly, but very importantly, I would like to commend our co-skippers for doing a fine job on the water.  You can check the race results at http://www.sbyc.org/racing_calendar.php.  I am pleased to report that Battalion Commander Dave Sedecki of our county fire department earned a 1st place A-Fleet trophy as co-skipper of Skian Dhu.  Pat McElroy, Battalion Commander of our city fire department co-led his race team to a close H-Fleet 2nd on Bebe.

Other local celebrities like 2009 El Presidente, Anthony Borgatello, KTYD’s Julie Ramos and KLITE’s Bill Pesso demonstrated their skill, cunning and overall competitiveness as co-skippers on Taxi, Fast Tango and Bullish, respectively.

If you think you had fun this year, I suggest you mark your calendar now for the 2010 Regatta scheduled for Sunday, September 12th.

Appreciatively,

Tony Papa
Regatta Chairman
