How To Submit Your Pictures

Navigating in Our New Galleries and More Tips:

New Guidelines

Photos for posting on the SBYC Web Site must be noncommercial amateur photographs taken and submitted by members only. It is the member's responsibility to notify and obtain permission from individuals whose images appear in your photos before you submit them.

FORMATS and Filenames
The following are file formats (extensions) that are suitable for display on the web: gif, bmp, jpg. If your photo capture program uses a different extension, there is usually an option to convert it. Only 3 character extensions are allowed. If your program assigns the extension JPEG, it must be changed to JPG. Just use the filenames suggested by your camera. Sometimes people go to great effort to identify each photo with the event, renaming every photo. The directory already identifies the event, so you don't need to bother. In the process of changing file names, people often use illegal characters, such as spaces and commas. The easiest and best is to stay with the camera's numbering.

CONTENT
Your photos should be selected so as to be of interest to all members. Avoid multiple photos of essentially the same subject. Photo files submitted by members will normally not be edited so please make sure they do not contain images which could be embarrassing to others or inappropriate. Also, please check the orientation of the photos, correcting any that were shot with the camera in a vertical alignment.

SUBMITTING  THEM
Please submit your photos on a CD with your name, the event, and the date of the event clearly marked on the CD. Just drop them off at the SBYC office.
Photos cannot be linked or copied from other internet websites.
If you are submitting photos of more than one event, please make separate folders for each event on the CD.

HOW MANY TO UPLOAD?
Please remember that we are all sharing space on our website server. Try to be reasonable about the number of photos you submit, particularly if they are primarily of you and your family or crew. Sometimes people will submit 200+ photos, saying something like "Lots of these are similar and some aren't very good. Just go ahead and delete any you want to." Well, we'd prefer if you'd do that in advance of submitting them, if you are able. Then we don't have to make decisions you may not like. Thank you very much for sharing in this fun showcase of our activities!
