Cruising Events

Hello, Cruisers of 2010,

Welcome to another great new cruising season - again this year will test your skills in moving your boat out of its slip, anchoring, and being able to get back into your dingy after those fun parties.  Christine and I are your new Fleet Captains and hope to help make this season as enjoyable as in years past.

We will have some changes this year in a number of areas. Catalina, due to its complexity,  will be handled separately from our planning and set-up.   This year the Commodore group will do the planning, and we're sure this year will be an even better experience than years past.  The cruiser sign-up sheet will now be on-line via the Club website. Dave McEachen has developed a web program where you will be able to sign up, see who else is going, and receive last minute information as to locations, weather, etc.   We will also initiate some changes in the club-supplied

liquor process to make the handling of the supplies much easier for the Cruise Captains.

I am hoping to possibly include a cruise to Ventura (VYC) this year which we will try to place between two others, maybe in July.

I also would like to find a way to entice club cruisers who have not joined us in the past to give one of our cruises a try.  We might pursue some ideas such as offering a buddy system with an experienced boat or even ask an experienced cruiser to go with them for confidence.

We are trying to line up this year's Cruise Captains and we already have a number of the cruises in good hands.  If you would like to help out  as a Cruise Captain this year, please email or call me with the one you would like.  I know some of you prefer a specific time of year or destination to handle a cruise so please contact me early.  All ideas to make this a great season are welcome and we would like your input.

We are going to put together a list of the most fun cruise activities done in the past as suggestions to the new Cruise Captains. Do you all remember that great clay sculpture contest? The "how long can you stand on one leg" (before the party)? The water color painting contest, and the many quiz contests you all loved just to get an ice cream or drink ticket?  Well, here we go again. Maybe we can add blindfolds.

We look forward to seeing you all at the first pot-luck planning party at the Yacht Club on Tuesday, Feb 23. Tell your friends, and newcomers, to join us for the start of another great year.
