Dennis and Sandy Boneck, Fleet Captains

Ahoy fellow cruisers,

The opening day parade was a great success.  The weather was perfect, our Commodore stood tall presiding over the perfect opening day ceremony, and the winds arrived on cue to give the sailing fleet the best conditions to start the 2008 season.  I want to thank all the cruisers and racers for turning out in such big numbers.  You all are the best!

Our dock party turned out fantastic, as the winds laid down the harbor warmed up. For those of you who don’t know, the theme of the dock party was “Papa the Sailor Man”  so people were encouraged to dress in nautical attire.   Suesan and Garry Pawlitski did a great job of planning and putting on the dock party with the help of Dave and Anne Watson, Dave and Lynn Lewis, Margo Banick, Susanna Menelli, Anna Friederich (great spinach cans), Peter and Linda Snowden (staff Commodore) and John and Caran Berryhill.  Suesan’s anchor tattoos were a big hit with most yacht club members  opting for “tats” and sailor hats on their way in. Thank you again for everyone helping out.  Great Job!

There were numerous sightings of our Commodore and Sabrina even though they apparently were in the Caribbean.  In fact, they were unusually “chummy” and photogenic (see photos on our site).  World class sailor Paul Cayard coincidently was laying over in Santa Barbara and joined the party.  He shared his experiences, posed for pictures, mingled with everyone and even gave tours of his new boat.  By the time of this printing the PCYC cruise has already happened.  Scott and Joanne Gordon, Gary and Janet Gordon (also known as the Gordon’s four) with the help of many volunteers from the club have put together what I’m sure was a fun filled event packed cruise.  PCYC has always been a welcoming club ready to help us in any way.  Thank you, PCYC, the Gordon’s four, and all the other volunteers. Our next voyage is the Memorial Day cruise May 24th - 26th to Pelican Bay at Santa Cruz island.  Dave and Anne Watson, and Garry and Suesan Pawlitski will coordinate hiking trips, cocktail parties and more which will make for a nice start for the 2008 island cruising season.   A sign-up sheet will be at the front desk shortly so get you boats ready and sign up early.

I want to give a special thank you to Garry and Suesan. After serving as last year’s Fleet Captains, they have really stepped up to help Sandy and me this year with advice, reminders, encouragement and volunteering on so many of our events for 2008.  Thank you both so much, you’re the best.

Your faithful Cruise Captains

Dust off your crockpots and look up your favorite potluck dinner recipes ...We'll all be there to feed our bellies, polish off the remaining cruise alcohol (better get there early), swap boating stories (lies) and share pictures!  This is an evening you won't want to miss! See you there!
