Welcome to the Santa Barbara Yacht Club

Located in Santa Barbara, California, approximately 100 miles west of Los Angeles, the Santa Barbara Yacht Club is proud to be the oldest yacht club in Southern California and the second oldest in the state of California.

Reciprocal privileges are extended to most yacht clubs on the West Coast and with many yacht clubs throughout the world.  If you are visiting Santa Barbara by yacht, our guest dock is located on the south side of the main channel at the end of D finger.  (On your left as you proceed into the harbor.)  Reservations for our guest dock are usually required and can be made via either phone or email through the Yacht Club office.  In the event our guest dock is not available we can forward you to the Harbormaster's office for alternate accommodations.

Santa Barbara Yacht Club sponsors a year round racing program.  Besides our Championship Series which includes the Spring, Fall, and Holiday Regattas, there are many other events throughout the year including Semana Nautica,  the Hot Rum Series, and several Regattas specifically designed to support and encourage women’s racing. The ever-popular weekly Wet Wednesday races take place throughout the daylight savings time period from April through Sept.  Races are traditionally open to visiting yachtsmen who are members of a yacht club.  Participating yachts may sail in either of several PHRF classes, or the one design fleets of J105 or J24s.  Additionally, the Club Handicap Racing Fleet welcomes sailors who enjoy the excitement of competition, but prefer a less intense atmosphere on Sunday afternoons. Other notable SBYC offshore events include the Coastal Cup from San Francisco in mid June, and the annual Santa Barbara to King Harbor Race in August.  Please refer to the racing section of this site for further information.
Our members actively cruise the coastline and offshore Channel Islands. We sponsor monthly cruises either to Santa Cruz Island or to other nearby harbors. The Annual Santa Barbara Yacht Club Cruise is held each year in August with Cherry Cove and Avalon Harbor on Catalina Island remaining favorite destinations.

Our junior program is coordinated with the Santa Barbara Youth Foundation.  Each year this foundation provides learn-to-sail instruction, and competitive sailing opportunities for over 100 young people in our community.  The ten week Summer Instructional program is held from mid June though August and is open to all children 8 to 18 years of age.  The High School sailing program and the Junior Racing Team give them additional opportunities to develop their sailing skills throughout the year.  Santa Barbara Yacht Club provides financial support, personnel, and equipment and facilities to the Foundation.

The SBYC Women sponsor opportunities for women in our club to become better acquainted and to become more involved in yacht club and harbor activities. They also host quarterly luncheon programs of both educational and informational content for their members.  SBYC Women support the Youth Foundation through fundraising activities and scholarships.
SBYC sponsors many social activities, including daily luncheons, Friday evening formal dinners, Sunday evening 'family' buffets, parties and group activities to meet the needs of our members and guests. If you are planning a trip to Santa Barbara or are interested in club membership, please contact either the SBYC office, one of our officers, or myself at the club.

Best Regards and Welcome to the Santa Barbara Yacht Club,
