Race Information & Registration

Dear Community Friend,

The Santa Barbara Yacht Club will host its third Annual Charity Regatta, benefiting Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care of Santa Barbara on September 9, 2007.  I would like to invite you and/or your organization to become a sponsor of this one-of-a-kind event.

In addition to the excitement of the actual boat races, the Yacht Club will host a pre-race brunch and after-race party and barbecue with live music. There will be access to local yachts for spectators to view the races, as well other fun and unique activities in and around the Yacht Club. There will also be fantastic raffle prizes for items like a SUNSAIL Bareboat Charter in the Caribbean or a trip to Puerto Vallarta (given in 2006)!

As you may know Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care of Santa Barbara is a non-profit agency in existence for nearly 100 years. In addition to being the only state licensed and Medicare certified hospice program in the Santa Barbara area, they are also the largest provider of home health, and operate one of the very few residential hospice facilities for the terminally ill in California

VNHC serves over 3,000 patients each year, and their mission is to provide high quality, comprehensive home health, hospice, and related services necessary to promote the health and well-being of all community residents, including those unable to pay. In fact, they must raise almost $1 million each year to continue their commitment of providing care for patients who are uninsured, underinsured and unable to pay.  That's where we come in.

The Santa Barbara Yacht Club is one of this area's most recognized institutions, and our Charity Regatta is one way that we give back to this community.  By showing our appreciation and support to the nurses, home health aides, counselor and volunteers who tend to the needs of others every day we can truly make a difference. This is a popular and exciting event with many opportunities for sponsor and donor recognition.

We invite our Sponsors to participate in one of three ways:

As a Corporate Sponsor, enlisting your company or organization to support this important event.

As a Boat Sponsor, supporting skippers and crews who race for the cause of comfort and dignity at the end of life.

As a Memorial Sponsor, securing special recognition for a loved one who has passed away.

Please join with us in supporting the important work of Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care.  All Sponsorships are tax-deductible, however in order to be included in our printed materials, t-shirts, and posters, your sponsorship must be submitted no later than July 31st, 2007. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Tamara Skov at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care, 805-690-6282.

See you on the water!

Charity Regatta Boating Events

Although our Charity Regatta will include many activities throughout the day, the power and sailboat competition will be the main events. The success of our fund raising efforts depends on the full participation of our boating members. Both events are intended to be fun yet competitive with perpetual and take home trophies going to the winners.

Sailboat Race Format and Rules
The sailboat competition will include all SBYC fleets including One Design, PHRF, and Handicap. Individual class trophies will be awarded within each fleet. The entry fee will simply be whatever contribution each boat wishes to make with one raffle ticket provided for each $25.00. A special trophy will go to the boat with the largest entry fee/contribution. The first gun will be at 1255 hours.

There will be a reverse handicap staggered start based on each boat’s Club Handicap Rating. Each boat, regardless of class or fleet will be assigned a handicap generated from statistical performance data from Wet Wednesday and/or CHRF races this year. A boat that has not raced in either event will be assigned a rating based on competition this year with like boats. The overall Charity Regatta place awards and Perpetual Trophy winner will be based on the order of finish.

PHRF Class winners will be based on corrected time, and CHRF and One Design class winners will be based on order of finish within each respective fleet.   Sailing Instructions

Power Boat Event
This is a “Predicted Log” contest.  It is intended to challenge the planning and navigation skills of contestants.  Skippers of any powered vessel, including sailboats under auxiliary power, are welcome, provided they meet the minimum requirements specified in the rules.
